Hot Child in the City: Bergdorf Goodman in Washington or Is It Hu's Wear?
I don't know about you, but when I think of fashion, I don't think of brands that the "Washington Lady" likes. When you dress yourself in Tory Burch, and other over-logoized brands, while carrying a Vera Bradley bag, you look idiotic when you say you love fashion. Bergdorf Goodman is one of the few places I can escape the women of the Louis Vuitton handbag club. Unfortunately, Bergdorfs isn't in the District. But I swear to you, their cousin is: Hu's Wear in Georgetown.
All I had to hear, in order for me to travel up to Hu's, were the words "Proenza Schouler." They can boast brands like Isabel Marant, Givenchy, Celine, Alexander McQueen, and The Row. No one else in DC carries those brands. So it was only natural when I walked into the store, I thought, "God is real." Within seconds I was trying on Chloe sunglasses and walking around with a Balenciaga. Just to my luck, there was a downstairs, where I was bombarded with a rack of Celine. Best chaos ever.
This is what I was talking about. Celine galore.
Celine galore continued...
And part 3 of Celine Galore. I was amazed they were able to stock such an amazing brand here in DC. Listen up ladies and gents, put some Celine in your wardrobe, and you won't be boring. Bring Paris to the American Paris?
I had a leather seizure when I saw this Row dress.
McQueen. No question here, but this blouse fantastic. Am I right, or am I right?
Don't know if you'll be able to buy this Isabel Marant jacket, because I am totally buying it.
Unknown brand Hache is incredible at making coats. Obviously you can tell by the picture.
McQueen, again. I can see this piece in a commercial, "Getting cold this winter? Throw on some McQueen, and you'll be hot."
Fabulous store, fabulous clothes. Hu's Wear in Georgetown.

"Get Hitched in Georgetown" Dream Wedding Being Given Away During Fashion's Night Out Georgetown Includes Wedding Dress, Reception, Invitations and More
As part of Fashion's Night Out Georgetown on 9/8, couples will face-off in a friendly yet fierce competition to win the ultimate dream wedding in Georgetown from 20+ merchants
Georgetown is DC's premier location to host a dream wedding, and for one lucky couple that dream will soon become a [free] reality. Fashion's Night Out Georgetown will offer 90+ neighborhood shopping celebrations and a whole night of excitement on September 8, 2011 from 6 p.m. - 11 p.m., but one of the evening's highlights will be the incredible "Get Hitched in Georgetown" wedding contest and giveaway, where DC-area couples will compete in several entertaining, must-watch activities, for a chance to win the ultimate Georgetown wedding.
More than 20 Georgetown merchants have teamed up to create the "Get Hitched in Georgetown" wedding package. The grand prize includes all the ingredients to a truly unforgettable wedding day such as a designer wedding gown, tiered cake, five-star wedding suite, custom invitations and even a waterfront reception. On Fashion's Night Out, one lucky engaged couple will walk away with the wedding of their dreams.
Of course, winning the dream wedding will not be that easy. The 'Get Hitched in Georgetown' contest is open to 50 sets of engaged couples*, who can enter the contest on the Fashion's Night Out Georgetown web site. Entrants must complete and submit the online application which will open on Friday, August 19 at noon and close on Friday, September 2 at noon. The Georgetown BID, who is coordinating the event with the 20 merchants, will then accept the first 50 completed applications (along with five alternates) that meet the eligibility requirements. The 50 semi-finalists will then participate in the "Get Hitched in Georgetown" event during Fashion's Night Out activities on September 8.
On September 8, the 50 couples will designate their "better halves" to participate in an unforgettable wedding-themed showdown featuring three fun rounds of competition which will be announced at the start of the event. Emceed by ABC Channel 7's Alison Starling, the competition will take place at 8:30 p.m. at TD Bank, which will be transformed for the evening by Syzygy Event Productions while local nine-year-old DJ sensation, DJ Beauty and the Beatz will be providing the tunes. (Designers Tara Locklear, Sarah West and Lisette Fee)
Good friends and school mates at East Carolina University, Tara Locklear, Sara West, and Lisette Fee are truly the Trifecta. The three very talented jewelry designers held a trunk show in several places this weekend, including Caramel Boutique. I stopped by Caramel to get an up close look at their amazing pieces.
Tara Locklear found herself immersed in the skate board culture in North Carolina. So much so that she can look at the bottom of a skateboard and tell its whole life story. Now that's immersion. She take the boards that skaters have saved (skaters hardly ever let go of their boards, even if it is broken) and turn those boards into amazing pieces of jewelry. She also makes pieces from concrete and silver, as well as, ferrous and nonferrous enamels.
Sarah West knows LPs. You know, LPs! I know some of you may not be old enough to have owned a record player. Thanks goodness that I am and can totally appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into the jewelry that Sarah makes with LPs. But she doesn't just use the records for her designs, it is an experience. Sarah gets the records, listens to the records, holds listening parties in homage to the music (if warranted) before she ever starts her design process. She also makes gorgeous pieces made from steel. She actually was wearing this amazing steel bracelet when I was there and Tara was wearing her fabulous earrings.
Lisette Fee mixes materials that I would not have thought to pull together including Tagua nut and starfish feet or deer antlers and silver or bones. She uses bones in a variety of ways as not to waste any parts. Her bone and silver necklace was beyond fab. If you are looking for jewelry that is unique and totally made from love with the highest quality of craftsmanship, Tara, Sarah and Lisette have a piece of jewelry for you! Visit their web sites and get to shopping!

If DC is known for one thing, it's that the upscale consignment and vintage boutiques are killer. I constantly try to bring "edgy" to Washington, and I can easily achieve that by shopping at places like Pretty People Vintage and Annie Creamcheese. But which one "edges" out the other? I took my Canon Rebel and styling skills to Alexandria and Georgetown to find out.
Pretty People Vintage is a true vintage shop. Obviously they have a vintage inspired, current selection of clothes, but at least 80% of their stock is pure vintage (think cropped jackets from the 60s, strong shoulders from the 40s, and mesh from the 80s). And the jewelry collection they have is the best I've seen around the District. The best part? Among everything in the store, you will be able to find a vintage inspired Rag & Bone shift dress, or a Missoni tunic straight from 1979. Here are some looks I styled, putting the style of Pretty People Vintage into the completed outfits.
Annie Creamcheese is my go-to for a loud jacket or shirt perfect for a night out. While most of the clothes I've purchased aren't exactly true vintage, they are still beyond inspired from the 60s and 70s. The store itself is divided into two sections, one for the high-end, designer side, and a cheaper section. I actually find better pieces in the cheaper side, but the expensive side is still to-die-for. Racks upon racks of Yves Saint Laurent haunt the store. The accessory department is ideal for finding anything from chunky costume jewelry, ladylike bags from Dior and Chanel, or single strands of gold and silver necklaces. Whatever you are trying to look for, you won't be let down if you are wanting loud and bold clothing. Here's the looks I styled with an Annie Creamcheese flair.
While I love both stores, when it boils down to it, I'm looking for cheap vintage. Pretty People had that, and Annie Creamcheese didn't. ACC was way to overpriced, including their designer side. I'm sorry but when you are selling a Missoni dress for $800 that was originally $800, you look ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, PP was a little chaotic inside. Jewelry was properly placed, just hard to find.

This patterned maxi dress is what summer in DC is all about. Pair it with a fun necklace inspired by geometry, and you have an eye-opening look.
Want to feel like Barbra Streisand in "A Happening in Central Park?" Look no further, because Pretty People has you covered. Shiny crystals only help with this ultra flowey, nightgown-inspired look.
Would Iris Apfel wear this? Yes. Would you wear it? YES.
Say hello to the modern woman who wants to look rough and tough chic in this little black dress with a twist. Sheerness + shortness = commotion in DC, which then = perfect show-stopper!
Toto, we aren't in 1956 anymore! But we are in a world filled with vintage pieces to make you look like you are in 1956 (obviously in a good way).
David Bowie meets Cleopatra? YES PLEASE.
Perfect for a disco boat ride on the potomac.
Did Valentino make this cropped jacket? No, but it sure looks like it. With the knotted Chanel pearls, the look is brunch and fancy-event ready.
Annie Creamcheese is my go-to for a loud jacket or shirt perfect for a night out. Personal story alert! About a month ago, I was the shop, and I saw this YSL ring. It was $450. I was completely shocked, because this is a current piece, sold at the YSL boutique in Chevy Chase for $200. I asked the girl to ask the manager if it was correct, because I assured her there was a mistake. Well there wasn't. I said "screw that," and continued shopping. Last week when I stopped by, it was at $200. Moral of the story; RESEARCH.
To channel Angelina Jolie in this dress is not a problem. To channel an attention seeker in the necklace is not a problem. To wear this look, there is a problem. People will try to rip it off you, since you'll be looking gorgeous.
Favorite look At ACC. Just throw on bug-eye sunglasses and feel like a superstar in Georgetown.
DVF never fails at dressmaking. Never fail at bad fashion sense with this dress.
Missoni themselves came into the store to add to their archives. I would hope all you want to add this to your archives (AKA closet).
Gold sequin shorts and a loose blouse. Need I say more?
Compare and contrast:
